Clay Goerg & Schneider 234 10 kg
Goerg & Schneider 234 Paperclay – light stoneware paperclay
Goerg & Schneider 234 Paperclay is a light stoneware clay enriched with paper fibers. The fibers increase the strength of the unfired work and facilitate joining elements, repairing cracks, and creating lightweight, intricate structures. After firing, the clay turns white to light cream.
Characteristics:
- Fired color: white to light cream
- Application: sculpture, thin slabs, large and lightweight forms, and repairs
- Form: plastic paperclay, packed in 10 kg
- Firing temperature range: 1000–1240°C
- Additive: paper fibers; no grog
- Drying shrinkage: approx. 7%
- Firing shrinkage: 5% at 1070°C; 7% at 1140°C; 8% at 1240°C
- Water absorption after firing: 11% at 1070°C; 6% at 1140°C; 3% at 1240°C
Recommended for sculpture, thin slabs, large but lightweight forms, ceramic installations, and repairing and building up elements. The fibers burn out during the process, so thorough drying of the work and adequate kiln ventilation are necessary. This is a favorite clay among creators of spatial installations and sculptors working on large-format, but as light as possible, objects.
The given parameters are approximate. The final color, shrinkage, absorbency, and glaze behavior depend on the kiln, atmosphere, soaking time, and firing curve. Before producing a larger series, we recommend a technological test with the chosen clay and glaze.
